A recent change by Shopify limits the ability of our app to customize the credit card payment method at checkout. This specifically affects merchants on plans other than Shopify Plus, regardless of their location. Previously, these merchants might have been able to use our app to make these customizations. However, due to Shopify’s update, this functionality is no longer available. Effective June 5th, 2024.
Merchants in the U.S. and Canada
Shopify Plus: These merchants retain full control over credit card payment method customization using built-in Shopify Plus features.
Other Plans: These merchants can no longer use our app to customize the credit card payment method. They can, however, still leverage our app to customize other payment methods offered at checkout (e.g., PayPal, Afterpay). Upgrading to Shopify Plus is required to regain the ability to customize the credit card payment method.
Merchants outside the U.S. and Canada
Unlike merchants in the U.S. and Canada, your ability to customize payment methods through our app remains unchanged. This means you can continue to use all the features of our app to tailor the checkout experience for your customers, including renaming, sorting, and hiding different payment options. This includes credit cards, debit cards, digital wallets, and any other payment methods that Shopify supports in your region.
What can you do?
If you are a U.S. or Canadian merchant on a non-Plus plan: Consider using our app to customize other payment methods offered at checkout, such as PayPal, Afterpay, or other alternatives. These options might provide a suitable checkout experience for your customers. Upgrading to Shopify Plus is another option to regain the ability to customize the credit card payment method. Shopify Plus offers a range of benefits beyond payment method customization, so explore if it aligns with your business needs.
If you are located outside the U.S. and Canada: you can breathe easy! This change does not affect you. You can continue using Hide Payment & Shipping to customize all your checkout payment methods, including credit cards, just as before.
